GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Galveston police say they're searching for a man who attempted to kidnap a 13-year-old girl on her walk to school on Monday morning.

Police said just before 7 a.m., teachers at Central Middle School reported that a student was approached and grabbed by an unknown man on her way to school.

Galveston police say they're searching for a man who attempted to kidnap a 13-year-old girl on her walk to Central Middle School on Monday morning.

Authorities spoke to the 13-year-old student, who reportedly told them she heard footsteps approaching from behind near the 900 block of 28th Street.

The student told police a man grabbed her from behind, and after a brief struggle, she bit him twice, broke free, and ran to school, officers said.
