SUPERIOR, Wis. (Northern News Now) - Wisconsin lawmakers are sounding the alarm on healthcare premiums amid the ongoing shutdown.
On Monday, Governor Tony Evers announced 2026 percent rates for Wisconsin healthcare coverage costs.
He said the rates are expected to skyrocket if Congress doesn’t extend the Affordable Care Act premium tax credits.
Officials say the 2026 percent increase rates could have some Wisconsin seniors paying an additional $30,000 a year.
“Families are struggling, and now more than ever, we should be working to make health care more affordable and more accessible, not making it more expensive and harder for folks to get the coverage and care they need,” said Gov. Tony Evers.
