Gilbert Public Schools has announced plans to close Pioneer Elementary School at the end of the school year and adjust nearby school boundaries beginning in 2026–27.
In a letter sent Friday to district families, GPS said the proposal is part of its ongoing enrollment management process designed to balance student populations, make efficient use of district facilities, and ensure fiscal responsibility.
“Over time, with changing enrollment across the district, it is necessary to look at some changes in order to ensure we can continue to give all of our students and families a high standard of education while maximizing the use of our school buildings and ensuring the district is being fiscally responsible,” the letter stated.
The proposal calls for Pioneer Elementary to close in May 2026.
