KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - It has been 27 days since the federal government shutdown, leaving many confused about how to make ends meet.

Tia Smith, a parent of two, is struggling to feed her family.

“I have already skipped meals to try to save what food I have left so that can my kids can eat,” Smith said.

Now, families in need will soon have access to free meals across eight grocery stores in West Virginia. Those stores are: Kanawha City Piggly Wiggly, Elk River Market of Gassaway, Elkview Supermarket, Poca Supermarket, Poca Supermarket, Boone Country Store, Black Angus Meats and Deli, and the Eleanor Piggly Wiggly.
