SPEARMAN, Texas (KFDA) - A former Spearman volunteer firefighter is sharing her experience at the department after 10 members stepped down last week.

The now former members have made it clear the main issue stemmed from a lack of leadership, specifically with Chief Paxton Heckman.

Christina Dettmer was a member of the Spearman Fire Department for over 10 years.

She says she made the difficult decision to step down after her concerns for the welfare of the department were constantly met with confrontation from Heckman.

“If I asked questions or brought up concerns, it was met with push back or retaliation because he always took everything as a question about his authority. Any type of question or concern he took as a challenge to his authority,” said Dettmer. “When I realized we had no
