SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - Summit County approved a $250,000 grant to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank to assist residents affected by the potential loss of federal SNAP benefits.

More than 77,000 Summit County residents in nearly 43,000 households rely on SNAP, which

provides an average of $15 million per month in food assistance.

Congress has yet to pass a federal budget or funding for the continuation of the

program.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, there will be insufficient funds to pay full November SNAP benefits for approximately 42 million individuals nationwide beginning November 1.

The Summit County Council passed an emergency resolution at the request of Executive

Shapiro, authorizing the Department of Job and Family Services to execute the grant agree
