SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) - A recent audit in Suwannee County revealed significant accounting problems within the sheriff’s office.
The audit found that the sheriff’s office struggled with new accounting software that led to faulty financial reports.
Auditors also pointed out general issues in how money is handled, like not enough people checking the books, and problems keeping track of county property.
More news out of the Big Bend:
The report also found potential credit card abuse, citing a lack of a clear credit card policy, which likely increased the risk of unauthorized or wasteful spending.
The sheriff’s office says they know about these issues and are working to fix them.
They say most of these issues were due to staff turnover and lack of training.
To keep up with the lat
