After starting the Vikings’ last five games in relief of the injured JJ McCarthy, Wentz was placed on injured reserve, and, according to multiple reports, will have surgery on his left, non-throwing shoulder.

Certainly heartbreaking news for the QB who has bounced around in an effort to rejuvenate a career that had a meteoric rise, and just as quick a downfall. But the injury itself isn’t the biggest surprise.

The more significant part of the story is the timing and the severity of the injury.
