Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday officially signed a law ending the Plutonium Management and Disposition Agreement (PMDA) with the US, as reported by Asian News International (ANI), citing RT. The lower house of the Parliament passed the bill earlier this month, and the Federation Council, the upper house, endorsed it last Wednesday. The legislation took effect on Monday after receiving President Putin ’s approval. Although Russia had already suspended its participation in the agreement in 2016, citing “hostile actions” by the US, such as sanctions and NATO expansion, the new law marks a definitive end to one of the last remaining mechanisms of nuclear arms cooperation between the two countries.
