RICHMOND, Va. — The Virginia House of Delegates met this afternoon to discuss potential first steps toward redistricting the commonwealth’s congressional map.
The House of Delegates voted 50-42 Monday allowing the conversation to continue. They will meet again Wednesday.
It’s part of a push across the nation to redraw congressional lines to benefit political parties.
“Democrats, in our General Assembly, are calling this special session, not to serve the people, no, but to serve themselves,” said Winsome Earle-Sears, the Republican lieutenant governor and candidate for governor in next Tuesday’s election. “They want to dismantle the very independent redistricting commission that Virginians voted for.”
