A Fort Wayne Community Schools board member commended the district's chief financial officer Monday for next year's $419 million budget.

"A lot of people are going to wonder how we did it, in being able to survive an $11 million cut from the state," Steve Corona said moments before he and his colleagues approved the spending plan.

CFO Rosie Shipman told the board last month that the district must be firm about sticking to its budget as it adapts to revenue losses caused by Indiana's new property tax reform law.

Gov. Mike Braun signed the legislation in April and touted the bill as "historic property tax relief."
