BATON ROUGE, La. (WVUE) - Multiple reports indicate that Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry was directly involved in the decision to fire LSU football coach Brian Kelly on Sunday (Oct. 26).

Less than 24 hours after a humiliating 49-25 home loss to No. 3-ranked Texas A&M, Kelly was out and the university began negotiations hoping to whittle down some of Kelly’s $54 million buyout clause.

Reports by Yahoo! Sports and Jeff Palermo of the Louisiana Radio Network say the decision came with heavy involvement from the governor’s mansion.

“Governors being involved in LSU football is not new. (Landry) has been a big booster during his time in office,” said Dillard University political analyst Dr. Robert Collins.
