CHICAGO (WLS) -- A teenage boy was shot by someone who tried to rob him on the city's North Side on Monday evening, Chicago police said.

Police said the shooting happened in the West Ridge neighborhood's 2700-block of West Glenlake Avenue around 6 p.m.

A 17-year-old boy was in an alley when two people approached and tried to rob him, but the teen did not have any belongings to take, police said.

Police said one suspect then took out a gun and fired shots, striking the teen in the legs.

The victim took himself to Swedish Covenant Hospital in good condition.

No one is in custody, and area detectives are investigating.

Police did not immediately provide further information.
