TEMPE (AZFamily) — Two weeks after a violent storm tore through the East Valley , volunteers from Team Rubicon are helping neighbors recover — one yard at a time.

The microburst damaged more than 1,000 homes and over 80 businesses across the East Valley, leaving behind a trail of destruction. Streets remain lined with tree limbs, splintered fences, and homes with roofs peeled open by the fierce winds.

That’s where Team Rubicon comes in. The national nonprofit, made up mostly of veterans and retired first responders, has deployed about 30 volunteers in Tempe each day this week to assist with the toughest cleanup jobs.

“We have very, very capable people,” one volunteer said, pausing between the steady hum of chainsaws and the crunch of broken branches.
