For the first time in 2025, a new football team claims the No. 1 spot among HBCUs. Here’s how I voted in the BOXTOROW HBCU football media poll after Week 9:
1. Alabama State (5-2): The Hornets are the first top team that’s not Jackson State since the preseason. They were elite on offense and defense in their 56-13 win over Alabama A&M. Alabama State only allowed 1.5 yards per carry and 99 total passing yards.
2. Delaware State (5-3): Delaware State takes a jump from sixth last week because it spoiled the homecoming of an impressive North Carolina Central team, winning 35-26 on the road. Hornets wide receiver NyGhee Lolley was the top option in the win, as he had five catches for 124 yards and three touchdowns. Earning this victory against a fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference team
