HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) -- CenterPoint Energy officially lays out its plan for the next 20 years.

The company now says it will keep its coal-fired unit 3 at the Culley Generating Station running longer than planned. It had been set to shut down in 2027, but that's being delayed as CenterPoint finalizes its new long-term plan for 2028.

Unit 2 at Culley is still on track to close by the end of this year with a study underway to see if it could be converted into a battery storage facility. The plan also advances some renewable energy projects including a wind farm in Knox County while putting others on hold.

Even with those changes, CenterPoint says it still expects about 60 percent of its energy to come from renewable sources. The plan is part of the company's effort to reduce energy costs
