The Office of the Inspector General is providing more information about a shooting that involved police on Interstate 84 West in East Hartford.

An officer conducted a traffic stop in the 300 block of Center Street in Manchester around 1:45 a.m. Saturday.

Police said the driver initially stopped, but then fled from the traffic stop and headed toward I-84 West. As the car approached the highway, officers deployed stop sticks, which authorities said successfully slowed the vehicle, but the driver kept going.

While on the highway, police said the driver started shooting at officers. A Manchester police officer returned fire and hit the driver and his car, according to police.
