BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - Bryan Texas Utilities (BTU) announced a temporary assistance program for customers impacted by the federal government shutdown.
The program will prevent eligible customers who have been furloughed or are currently not being paid from service disconnections.
“To qualify, BTU residential or small commercial customers must provide acceptable proof of furlough or loss of pay from a federal employer. Verification may include a furlough notice, a letter or email from a federal supervisor, or other official HR notification,” a release from BTU states.
“While normal billing will continue, customers will not be subject to disconnection if full payment is not provided until the shutdown ends. At that time, BTU representatives will work individually with affected customers to
