DEDHAM, Mass. —
The Norfolk County Sheriff's office is warning residents about a jury duty scam that cost two victims thousands of dollars on Monday.
In the first incident, a Sharon woman arrived at the sheriff's facility with receipts from a Bitcoin kiosk totaling $5,250, according to a department spokesperson.
The woman claimed someone acting as a sheriff's office employee called and left her a voicemail about missing jury duty. After a series of phone calls with the would-be scammer, she was told she would be detained for 10-12 days if she didn't transfer the $5,250.
Under duress, she completed the transfer.
In the second instance, a Dedham woman went to the Norfolk sheriff's lobby claiming to be a victim of a scam.
