Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Monday clarified that Assam has been excluded from the nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls because separate provisions of the Citizenship Act apply to the state. He said the Election Commission will soon issue a special order specifically for Assam’s voter list revision.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday announced the launch of the second phase of electoral roll revision in 12 states and Union Territories from November 4. Assam, however, is notably absent from the list.
