LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - As the government shutdown continues, many are in fear and uncertainty about their next paycheck, meals, or benefits. One local organization is stepping up to offer crucial resources for those in need.
On Oct. 24, Gov. Jeff Landry signed an executive order directing the state to cover the cost for SNAP benefits for children, the elderly, and the disabled.
However, assistance will stop for everyone else on Nov. 1 if the U.S. Senate does not reach a deal to reopen the federal government.
With the deadline fast approaching, SNAP recipients are among the many facing an uncertain future.
“We have seen an increase in calls asking about our food bank program and if people qualify for assistance,” Sister Marie Josepha Kluczny, Executive Director of Catholic Chariti
