GRAPEVINE, Texas — Grapevine-Colleyville ISD is one of the top-performing districts in Texas. But what was clear Monday night, as board members were briefed about its future financially, excellence doesn’t always pay the bills.

That’s the paradox playing out across the district as GCISD faces a $10 million shortfall and weighs closing up to three elementary schools to save between $1.3 million and $2 million a year per school.

“It’s unfortunate,” Board President Shannon Braun said. “We have to do this right. We need to make sure the pieces of the puzzle fit together correctly.”
