Players from a Missouri high school football team have retained legal representation, including civil rights attorney Ben Crump, following a pepper spray incident after game against Massillon Washington High School in Ohio on Oct. 3.

Players from Cardinal Ritter College Prep in St. Louis were pepper sprayed by Massillon police after both teams became involved in an altercation during postgame handshakes.

Families of Cardinal Ritter players were “shocked and angered that police officers with the Massillon Police Department took such drastic measures over high school football players having a disagreement on the field following the game,” according to a news release.

More than two dozen Cardinal Ritter players have retained Crump, along with Ohio-based attorneys Sean Walton, Michael Wrigh
