OMAHA, Neb. —
An Omaha nonprofit is celebrating over a century of serving the community.
Heartland Family Service marked its 150th anniversary Monday. The organization helps people and families through advocacy, education, counseling and support services.
Since its founding in 1875, the nonprofit has connected nearly 120,000 people and families to direct services in east-central Nebraska and southwest Iowa. Heartland Family Service also recognized the efforts of its more than 400 staff members, 115 volunteers and more than 600 donors.
The nonprofit said next year it will transition into a new role that will allow for crisis services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It says each person will also have a dedicated specialist focus on their care.
