The Kansas City Chiefs entered Monday night’s showdown against the Washington Commanders, who were without star quarterback Jayden Daniels, riding a two-game win streak.
The victories brought them to 4–3 and back near the top of the AFC West alongside the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers. Both offenses, however, got off to somewhat slow starts.
Marcus Mariota threw an interception that bounced off Deebo Samuel’s hands, and Washington came up short on two fourth-down conversions.
Meanwhile, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes tossed two interceptions of his own before Kansas City finally drove down the field. Running back Kareem Hunt capped the drive with a 1-yard touchdown to put the first points on the board.
