As the UCP fast-tracked back-to-work legislation inside the legislature Monday evening, Alberta Teachers’ Association president Jason Schilling stood in the cold outside of the building. The chill wasn’t only present in the wind and flurries of wet snow, but in the failing relationship between the teachers’ union and the ruling United Conservative Party.
“This is a sad day for teachers, this a sad day for Albertans.” Schilling said. “To have a government that is willing to trample on your Charter rights for their own purposes is a sad thing for this government to do. They should be ashamed of themselves, and they’re not. They’re going to move forward on this, and they’re going to use it again,”
