Seven people are facing charges in what police say is another violent extortion plot involving guns and arson.

Edmonton police on Tuesday announced a slew of charges after an investigation that began earlier this year after a shooting on the city’s south side.

The shooting and a subsequent arson are unconnected to the extortion plots that have been plaguing people in Edmonton’s South Asian community, police said.

The investigation began after someone fired multiple shots at homes in the Queen Alexandra neighbourhood March 11, an EPS news release states.
