TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Millions of Americans nationwide are going to lose their food stamps in a couple of days, and thousands in southern Arizona are also facing that reality.
Many people rely on these benefits for a variety of reasons, and one woman tells 13 News that her SNAP benefits literally “saved her life.”
Barbara Schulz is a cancer survivor currently in remission. After getting diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia in 2021, she’s been relying on food stamps to ensure she’s staying healthy during recovery.
“In a sense, it keeps me alive,” Schulz said. “It keeps me healthy and it keeps me alive.”
But when her SNAP benefits go away, staying healthy will be a challenge.
