TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - The U.S. Air Force is opening Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson to potential data center offers as part of a federal initiative to advance artificial intelligence technology.

Davis-Monthan is one of five bases that the federal government is opening up to AI data centers. Southern Arizona has seen a flurry of data center activity in recent weeks as Project Blue forges ahead and two additional data centers are under consideration in Marana.

“And now to find out that it’s going to be twice as bad as we actually thought– I mean at least twice as bad, I just don’t know what to think anymore,” Brian Penny, a Tucson resident, told News 4 Tucson.
