Shreyas Iyer, who suffered a laceration of the spleen and rib cage injury, is now out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a Sydney hospital and recovering well. The India ODI vice-captain suffered the life-threatening injury while taking a catch during the 3rd match against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Initially, the team didn’t read too much into the injury but when Iyer reportedly fainted inside the dressing room and his vital signs dropped, he was rushed to a hospital where tests revealed internal bleeding due to the ruptured spleen.
India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav on Tuesday revealed that Iyer has been responding to his messages and that he should recover soon enough.
In a moment of levity, Surya quipped rare events happen with rare talents.
