The US President and Japan’s new Prime Minister have signed an agreement to boost the supply and production of critical minerals days after Donald Trump inked a similar deal with Anthony Albanese in the White House.

During a visit to Tokyo, President Trump has also signed another deal with Japan’s first female leader Sanae Takaichi, to secure cooperation between the long-standing allies, which was hailed as the beginning of a “new golden age”.

“We are an ally at the strongest level, and it’s a great honour to be with you, especially so early in what will be, I think, one of the greatest prime ministers,” the President told the Prime Minister at their first face-to-face meeting.
