ALEXANDRIA — With the high cost of health care and insurance on everyone’s mind these days, news that a different kind of health care is in the offing for Alexandria is welcome.
Dr. Jamie Hammerbeck, in partnership with Dr. Alicia Bame-Anderson’s Motivity Health in Monticello, hopes to open a direct primary care clinic in Alexandria next spring.
Direct primary care is an alternative model of health care that relies on a membership, rather than fee-for-service insurance billing. The American Academy of Family Physicians says that membership “covers all or most primary care services, including clinical and laboratory services, consultative services, care coordination, and comprehensive care management.”
“It’s not a new model,” says Hammerbeck, “It's actually been around for 20 years.
