The 5-2 Los Angeles Rams bolstered their defense on Monday as they gear up for another run at the Super Bowl.
The Tennessee Titans traded away starting cornerback Roger McCreary to the Rams for conditional 2026 NFL draft selections. The Titans will more than likely receive an early fifth-round pick for McCreary, while the Rams will swap into a late sixth-round situation if the conditions are met. McCreary, drafted with a second-round pick by the Titans in 2022, is on the final year of his rookie contract and will be a free agent at the end of the season.
For the Rams, it’s a savvy move to upgrade one of the best defenses in football. While their defensive line has starred, a patched-together secondary group has done well to stay the course. The team’s No. 1 cornerback, Ahkello Witherspoon, went down in week two against the team they’re now trading with. In his absence, it’s been a collective effort with the team’s safeties covering for the lack of depth at corner.
McCreary, ranked 36th out of 113 cornerbacks this season by Pro Football Focus, will bring another intelligent roamer to a team that already has destructive superstars wrecking havoc in front of him. Although he might not turn out to be the new CB1 for the team with Witherspoon out, he should solidify a secondary that seems to be getting better as the weeks go on.
In Tennessee, this feels like the start of what could be a fire sale. While the team might have wanted to keep McCreary as a young piece to a future core, his impending free agency and the team’s current state might have forced their hand. Heading into 2026, it will be paramount for the Titans to hit on two things: first, find the right coach to mentor Cam Ward, and second, draft someone in the first round who can shoulder the franchise's load alongside their rookie quarterback.
