The Washoe County Board of Commissioners chose interim County Manager Kate Thomas to take over the role permanently.
"She is ready for this challenge. [She] has already initiated a lot of the things that this board has asked of leadership to do," said Commission Chair Alexis Hill.
Hill says she liked Thomas's experience and dedication to issues facing Washoe County. Thomas said her first priority is helping at-risk groups.
"We're facing a lot of challenges with senior populations and those that are facing homelessness," Thomas said.
Thomas adds that Washoe County has "got a housing crisis that we're coming into. I think the more strategic we are as an organization and with the vision of the board, we are up for the challenge."
