ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan went out of its way to establish a passing attack on Saturday night, going right at Michigan State’s poorly ranked secondary.

But none of it seemed to work.

Quarterback Bryce Underwood finished just 8 of 17 for 86 yards, his longest completion just 27 yards, with the Wolverines pivoting to their bread and butter rushing attack in the second half.

What went wrong?

“It’s two-part,” Michigan coach Sherrone Moore told reporters on Monday. “There’s some things in protection and coverage that we just didn’t get synced right. But there were some passes in there we were super successful on.”

Moore pointed to a 22-yard completion to freshman Andrew Marsh on a wheel route in the first quarter, then the big 27 yard-gain to a wide-open Marsh in the third quarter.
