The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) is sounding the alarm over what it calls a “frankly ridiculous” surge in six-figure public sector salaries, urging the province to rein in payroll spending amid ballooning debt and deficit projections.
Newly released data from the province’s 2024 sunshine list shows 30,675 employees earning more than $100,000 annually, up 149% from 2020, when there were 12,320 such earners. Total salary costs for sunshine list employees jumped from $3.8 billion in 2020 to more than $5.1 billion in 2024, while the top individual salary climbed from $850,684 to $1.4 million.
