Former Manitoba premier Heather Stefanson has paid an $18,000 fine for violating the province’s conflict of interest law, following a legislative vote earlier this month that sanctioned three Progressive Conservative politicians for their actions related to a silica sand mine project.
Speaker of the House Tom Lindsey confirmed in the Legislature on Monday that Stefanson paid her fine on Oct. 20. Progressive Conservative MLA Jeff Wharton, who represents Red River North, paid his $10,000 penalty on Oct. 27.

Both fines were issued after a unanimous vote by members of the Legislative Assembly on Oct. 7. Former PC cabinet minister Cliff Cullen was also fined $12,000, but the status of his payment was not disclosed during Monday’s session.
