Six people suspected of involvement in political violence in Lilongwe have arrived at the city’s Magistrate’s Court, where their trial continues today.

The suspects, Alfred Dalla Kadula, Joseph Tilibe Gidien, Lameck Mandowa, Lester Hanleck Aaron Kanjunga, Haward Hamuza, and Mabvuto Njuchi, made their first appearance in court yesterday.

Police arrested the group on suspicion of taking part in the assault of human rights activist Silvester Namiwa, assaulting of government workers who organized demonstrations in the city, among other incidents.

The charges they face include causing bodily harm, damaging property, and theft.
