The Mt. Hope High School boys' soccer club hosted Smithfield in the opening round of the Division II championship playoffs Monday night, Oct. 27, the eighth-seeded Huskies defeating the ninth-seeded Sentinels by a 2-0 count at Roger Williams University in Bristol.
Diego Gonzalez got the locals on the board first with a goal in the 17th minute of the contest. Mt. Hope maintained its 1-0 lead to intermission. Tom Levis doubled the Huskies' advantage with his tally in the 58th minute of the game.
The victory sends Mt. Hope into the main draw of the tournament where the Huskies will face top-seeded East Greenwich Thursday night, Oct. 30, on the road. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
