Nearly four decades after the world’s worst nuclear disaster, Chernobyl has once again left people baffled. The abandoned region, already famous for its ghost towns and resilient wildlife, has now become home to a strange new sight: stray dogs with bright blue fur.

The images, first shared online by Dogs of Chernobyl, a volunteer group that cares for stray animals in the exclusion zone, have quickly gone viral. In a video posted on Instagram, the group showed several dogs wandering near deserted buildings, their fur tinted in vivid shades of blue.
