When Mount Dora Christian Academy welcomed back former head coach Kolby Tackett two years ago, the numbers weren’t looking great for the football program. Tackett, who left to coach Middle Tennessee Christian School , was hired back in 2023 following a 7-4 Bulldogs season.

“When I first came back we had 17 kids. We had lost a few of the better players who transferred to other schools,” Tackett said.

Things have changed for the better in the two years since Tackett’s return . MDCA has 47 players on varsity this year, and after rolling through the regular season 9-1, the Bulldogs are the No. 1 seed in the upper bracket of the Sunshine State Athletic Association’s 11-Man championship playoffs, which open Friday.
