Hurricane Melissa is the strongest storm of 2025 and it is slowly approaching Jamaica.

People are hurriedly making last minute preparations and thousands have been evacuated as it is expected the storm will cause widespread flooding, landslides and extensive damage across the island.

Along with 175mph wind gusts, Jamaica could be hit with up to a metre of rain and storm surges of up to four metres.

But despite the government urging people to evacuate to emergency shelters, many Jamaicans have refused to leave their homes. Forecasters believe it could be the biggest storm to hit the island since records began in 1851.
