PANHANDLE — Carson County commissioners voted unanimously Monday, Oct. 27 to approve a sweeping tax abatement agreement with Fermi America, finalizing months of negotiation over a proposed data-center and energy complex near Pantex that could reshape the local economy for decades.

The project — which Fermi officials describe as a multi-phase, multibillion-dollar investment involving data centers powered by gas, solar and potential nuclear generation — would span more than 13 million square feet of facilities and produce up to 13 gigawatts of electricity at full build-out. County officials say it represents the largest development ever attempted in the Texas Panhandle.
