SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- The South Dakota Highway Patrol has announced 16 counties that will be involved in sobriety checkpoints throughout November.

In a news release from the Department of Public Safety, the checkpoints will be conducted in Beadle, Brown, Codington, Custer, Davison, Jackson, Lake, Lawrence, Lyman, Meade, Minnehaha, Moody, Pennington, Roberts, Stanley, and Yankton counties.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol and local law enforcement will be conducting the checks. The checks are designed to encourage people not to drink and drive and to find a sober driver or take a form of public transportation if they do choose to drink.

Officials also encourage people not to drink and drive, even if there is no checkpoint in their county.
