The New Jersey Supreme Court ruled Monday that state election law does not allow for a redo of a disputed primary election in Roselle that was decided by two votes.

Instead, the justices ruled the county Democratic Committee has the right to choose which candidate should run in the general election.

The decision comes as early voting has already begun for the November election in a high-profile election year that includes the governor’s race and contests for all 80 Assembly seats.

The Roselle election dispute began when Third Ward Councilwoman Cynthia Johnson challenged the June primary results after losing by two votes to incumbent Denise Wilkerson in the race for an at-large council seat.
