Joe Fields has been New Mexico State's athletic director for a few weeks after officially starting on Oct. 8.

Fields' hiring was announced by the university on Sept. 29 and was formally introduced that week on Oct. 2. He previously served as Tulsa's deputy AD from 2024-25 and spent time at Syracuse and Texas A&M in various administrative roles from 2010-17 at the former and 2017-24 at the latter.

His hiring ended a nine-month transition from former Aggies AD Mario Moccia after NM State President Valerio Ferme fired him in January and named deputy AD for strategic initiatives and leadership Amber Burdge as acting AD in his place.
