The Girl Scouts of Southern Appalachians honored longtime educator and community leader Dr. Edna Varner at the 2025 Trefoil Society Luncheon Tuesday. The annual event recognizes a distinguished woman in each region who embodies the spirit and values of Girl Scouting.

A Chattanooga native and the first in her family to attend college, Dr. Varner has dedicated more than three decades to advancing education and public service. She was a founding faculty member at the Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences and later served as principal of The Howard School. She now works as a teacher coach and senior advisor for the Public Education Foundation.
