A 4.86 per cent hike is on the table in Cambridge’s proposed 2026 budget.

Mayor Jan Liggett presented the strong-mayor budget Monday evening, highlighting the city’s plans to repair aging roads and open long-awaited facilities, while also addressing rising service costs.

If approved, the budget would bring a 4.86 per cent property tax increase — about $85 more a year for the average homeowner.

“The city’s budget is so much more than numbers on a page,” said Liggett. “It reflects the strategic priorities of the community and shapes the Cambridge of the future as a premier destination for families to call home, businesses to succeed, and visitors to enjoy festivals, events, and recreation — the full Cambridge experience.”
