A former advisor to Ronald Reagan chided the White House’s hostile reaction to a Canadian ad that quoted Reagan’s 1987 trade address criticizing tariffs.
Trump last week blasted the new anti-tariff commercial produced by the Government of Ontario, claiming it “misrepresented” Reagan’s views. In response, the president announced he is cancelling trade negotiations with Canada and adding an additional 10% tariff on Canadian imports.
Bruce Bartlett, who held senior policy roles in the Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations, hammered Trump over his response.
