CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Democrats in the West Virginia House of Delegates on Tuesday urged Gov. Patrick Morrisey to take further action to address food insecurity caused by interruptions to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program amid the ongoing federal government shutdown.
In a letter, the caucus thanked Morrisey for announcing more than $1 million in funding for state food banks, while saying the situation requires “systemic change and monumental assistance.”
“We need to stand in solidarity and do more for West Virginia,” the lawmakers wrote. “There are various funds that can be utilized to help address this emergency, and we stand ready to work with you in a special session or through other legislative means to ensure no West Virginian goes hungry.”
